Flavor Profile

Our favorite orange wine is made exclusively from Welschriesling, spontaneously fermented. Of particular note is that the grapes were harvested late, and therefore included a significant portion of fully botrytized berries. The wine fermented on its skins for 15 days, to which it owes its deep color and rich flavor, while the abundance of tannins makes it suitable for long cellaring, if one can avoid the temptation of cracking the bottle open - we were not very successful with this! The batch matured for half a year in wooden barrels and was bottled unfiltered, unclarified and without sulfites. Truly natural wine at its best!

PRODUCER INFORMATION

Producer: Geönczeöl Pince

Attila Geönczeöl has been making wine since the 1990s, bottling his first wine in 1997. The winery was originally established in Leléd, Slovakia, before moving to Garamkövesd in 2006, where Attila and his family now tend their 2.5-hectare estate.

The family works primarily with their own organically grown grapes, occasionally supplementing them with fruit sourced from neighboring vineyards. A close connection to nature lies at the heart of their winemaking philosophy: all Geönczeöl wines ferment spontaneously, without the addition of commercial yeast. They are then given plenty of time to develop, spending extended periods in barrel and bottle, with some wines also resting on their lees for longer periods before release.

The result is a range of wines shaped by patience, minimal intervention, and a strong sense of place.
