Flavor Profile

Few people associate Furmint with the northern shores of Lake Balaton, even though the variety has been a typical grape of the area for hundreds of years. Skrabski winery planted its Furmint in 2010, for which the vines were selected from Tokaj, from Szepsy István’s famous vineyard.

The 2022 Furmint maintains an incredible harmony of mineral and fruity notes with the distinctive acidity typical to the variety: its quince and pear character is accompanied by fresh citrus, restrained minerality and a little residual sugar, thus guaranteeing the complexity of the wine.

PRODUCER INFORMATION

Producer: Skrabski Borászat

The foundations of Skrabski Winery were laid in the 1990s, with the winery taking its current professional form in April 2007. Today, the family cultivates 12 hectares of its own organically farmed vineyards, primarily on the Les Hill, where a dry, Mediterranean-influenced climate and limestone-rich soils create distinctive growing conditions. The vineyards also offer beautiful views over Lake Balaton, while a smaller part of the estate lies in the renowned Vörösmál vineyard.

As a small boutique winery, Skrabski is focused on uncompromising quality and a hands-on approach to winemaking. Their histamine-free wines are shaped by a deep respect for nature and a belief in the importance of terroir, with every stage of production receiving careful, artisanal attention.

The winery’s work is currently led by young winemaker Réka Szántai, who brings a fresh perspective to the estate while maintaining its commitment to organic farming, craftsmanship, and the character of its vineyards.
