Riesling sylvani, or Müller-Thurgaut, was bred by Hermann Müller from the Swiss canton of Thurgau by crossing Rhine Riesling and Madeleine Royal (green sylvan) in 1882. The breed proliferated mainly across Central Europe, but it can also be found in the New World across North America, New Zealand, and Japan. Mayer Anti's 2023 Riesling sylvani is a dynamic, light, low-alcohol wine, expressing flavors of green apple, citrus peel and grape blossom, supported by moderate acidity. In most cases, the Riesling sylvani is used as a hybrid, but Anti demonstrates that it can stand its ground as an independent variety as well.
