Flavor Profile

The 2023 Szekszárd Cuvée from Garai Winery is a harmonious blend of three grape varieties: the distinctive local Kékfrankos from Szekszárd, together with equal parts of the internationally renowned Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The result is an elegant, rich, and well-balanced red wine with fruity, spicy, and deeply expressive character.

Kékfrankos gives the wine its true Szekszárd soul, bringing vibrant acidity and delicate spiciness that add a unique regional identity. Cabernet Sauvignon contributes intense blackcurrant and blackberry aromas, while Cabernet Franc completes the blend with elegance and subtle spice. Alongside the dark berry fruit notes, the wine also reveals hints of vanilla, sweet baking spices, and lightly roasted coffee on both the nose and palate.

The wine was aged for 14 months in first- and second-fill oak barrels, giving it great complexity and structure.

PRODUCER INFORMATION

Producer: Garai Pince

The Garai family winery began its journey near Pécs, on the historic cellar row of Mecseknádasd. In the early years, the family did not own vineyards and instead made their wines from grapes sourced from the Szekszárd wine region. This changed in 2013, when they established their own family estate on 1.5 hectares in Szekszárd, a region particularly close to their hearts, on Nyéki Hill near Alsónyék. Since then, they have continued to develop and improve the estate, with the long-term goal of expanding it to five hectares.

At the heart of the Garai family’s winemaking philosophy is the idea of following wine’s journey from vine to table. Drawing on family traditions, they approach every bottle with care and dedication, with their wines receiving recognition at several competitions over the years.

The youngest generation is also actively involved: Ákos plays an important role in the winemaking process, helping to shape the family’s full-bodied yet approachable wines. His involvement underlines what lies at the heart of Garai Pince—a genuine, multigenerational family winery.
