Kövérszőlő is a traditional Hungarian white grape variety that was once widespread in the Tokaj and Transylvanian wine regions. Its exact origin is unknown, and it nearly became extinct due to the phylloxera epidemic, but it has since experienced a revival and is gaining increasing attention among winemakers and wine enthusiasts. Its name, which translates as “fat grape”, derives from the large size of its tightly-packed grape clusters. The variety is most commonly found in blends, primarily in sweet wines, which makes it a true rarity when bottled as a single-varietal dry wine.

The 2023 Kövérszőlő from Breitenbach Winery displays dominant aromas of pear, apple, and subtle floral notes. On the palate, white-fleshed fruits and citrus nuances are present, supported by a full body and a long finish.
