Flavor Profile

Károly Kolonics’s Hárslevelű, like his other wines, undergoes 6-12 hours of skin maceration before pressing, followed by spontaneous fermentation and aging for at least one year in a larger 1000-liter wooden barrel.

This wine beautifully showcases the typical floral, white-petaled, honeyed character of Hárslevelű, complemented by pear and apricot fruitiness. It also features a strong mineral backbone, defined acidity, and a medium body, creating a well-balanced and expressive wine.

PRODUCER INFORMATION

Producer: Kolonics Pincészet

The 9-hectare Kolonics Winery is run by Károly Kolonics, who bottled his first wine in 2001 in the family’s historic cellar in the Apátság-dűlő on Somló Hill. The vineyard has been in the family for several generations and remains at the heart of the estate today.

Juhfark, the signature grape of Somló, is the main variety planted across the estate, alongside Olaszrizling, Hárslevelű, and Furmint, all of which thrive in the region’s unique conditions.
Kolonics wines offer a distinctive expression of Somló, with deep minerality and pronounced acidity forming the backbone, while the characteristic aromas and flavors of each grape variety remain clearly defined. The grapes undergo a short period of skin contact before the wines are transferred to larger wooden barrels for further maturation. This approach adds complexity and layers to the wines while preserving their sense of place, resulting in expressive, terroir-driven bottles with excellent gastronomic potential.
