Flavor Profile

The Tauninger series is the pride of Garai Winery in the Szekszárd wine region, produced only in the finest vintages. The selection is based on Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot, which are bottled either as single varietals or in carefully composed blends.

Thanks to the warm, sunny 2022 vintage, a remarkably ripe, concentrated, and richly expressive wine was born. Careful vineyard work and precise harvesting ensured perfectly healthy grapes with excellent ripeness levels entering the cellar.

The wine shows a dense, full-bodied structure, defined by ripe dark fruit aromas of plum, sour cherry, and black cherry. These are complemented by elegant oak ageing notes of vanilla, cocoa, dark chocolate, and cedar, adding depth and complexity to the profile. The warmth of the vintage brings velvety acidity, rounded tannins, and a pronounced sense of ripeness, resulting in a powerful, classic full-bodied red wine character.

A wine born from a typically sunny vintage, representing one of the fine examples of age-worthy, structured red wines from the Szekszárd wine region.

PRODUCER INFORMATION

Producer: Garai Pince

The Garai family winery began its journey near Pécs, on the historic cellar row of Mecseknádasd. In the early years, the family did not own vineyards and instead made their wines from grapes sourced from the Szekszárd wine region. This changed in 2013, when they established their own family estate on 1.5 hectares in Szekszárd, a region particularly close to their hearts, on Nyéki Hill near Alsónyék. Since then, they have continued to develop and improve the estate, with the long-term goal of expanding it to five hectares.

At the heart of the Garai family’s winemaking philosophy is the idea of following wine’s journey from vine to table. Drawing on family traditions, they approach every bottle with care and dedication, with their wines receiving recognition at several competitions over the years.

The youngest generation is also actively involved: Ákos plays an important role in the winemaking process, helping to shape the family’s full-bodied yet approachable wines. His involvement underlines what lies at the heart of Garai Pince—a genuine, multigenerational family winery.
